Dear Velvet is a Style, Art & Culture website, as likely to be transmitting from a fashion show in a spaceship as the studio of an artist chased down over three continents. Think of DV as a place where uncommon beauty and the latest craze collide with bold photography, wit and passionate curiosity.
Michelle Gagliano, the widely collected American artist, commissioned a complete update on her existing website. Keeping the nature motifs often found in her work, the site now has the light and airy feel, favoured by modern galleries.
A video was made to demonstrate her working process, shot on location in a Mallorcan villa and natural tones of earth and sky were used throughout the site. The sense of seeing inside the studio and rich use of space give a glimpse into the world of the artist.
Alfie Kohn is a leading author and speaker on education and business. His large body of scholarly articles, books and huge archive of blog posts aimed at teachers and parents alike were moved from his existing site onto a new home on the internet. Text was balanced with simple primary colours, to his specification, to give a playful, child-like feel to the site.
The result is academic with a twist of colour and his busy calendar and international lecture tour is displayed in an easy-to-use format. The informality of the colour scheme, coupled with his academic work capture the spirit of his message as an educator.
